YOUR FIRST FEW MINUTES
Take it at your own pace. The most important part of getting started is understanding how your device and recovery phrase work together to keep you in control.
Unbox your Ledger signer and connect it to your computer or phone using the included cable or Bluetooth, depending on your model. Follow the on-screen prompts to choose a PIN. Your PIN protects access to the device, so keep it private and memorable.
Your device will show a unique 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase. Write every word in the exact order on the recovery sheet provided, then store it offline in a private, secure place. Never photograph it, type it into a website, or share it with anyone—not even someone claiming to be Ledger Support.
Download Ledger Wallet (formerly Ledger Live) only from the official Ledger website or your device’s official app store. Open the app, choose “Get started,” and follow the guided security checks to connect and verify your device. Ledger will never ask you to enter your recovery phrase into the app.
Use the app catalog to install the blockchain apps you need on your device, then add the corresponding accounts in Ledger Wallet. Your accounts help you view balances and transactions; your private keys remain protected by your signer. Take time to explore the interface before moving assets.
THE GOLDEN RULE
It is the master backup to your accounts. Anyone who has it can access your crypto, and if you lose it, you may lose access permanently. Ledger will never ask for it. Keep it offline, private, and out of reach.
